An old white ( I believe ) male cat, muched loved by family, becomes increasingly slow. The Stone Pony you mention does indeed come from another book... I'm sure about this because I still own my very tattered copy from childhood. I just wanted to write and let you know that the stumper I submitted, D222, was correctly solved. The team's headquarters is in a junkyard, and Jupiter Jones is particularly colorful as the brainbox leader. Somehow they found out Viney had been watching them, and they let Viney join them.

The girl named Randy who had a bicycle accident is also from Elizabeth Enright, this time her second Melendy book The Four Story Mistake. At one point he ends up being rescued from a river, or has to hide in a river, but somehow loses most of his clothing and must wear this big trenchcoat type of thing, I think provided by his helper, so maybe it wasn't an indian, but there may be indians involved in the story. I recall he made a tree house and invented a large contraption that moved objects around his family room. Poetry is unique in being able to capture and describe deep feelings, but because of its depth, it can also seem unappealing.
