As the story turns out the face in the pond was actually the figurehead of a ship laying on the bottom of the pond/pool. This is definitely the book you're looking for! This definitely matches the description, although there may be others as well. But the newcomer, Anna Marie, is unfriendly and spoiledand French. I think this might be what you're looking for. The title is in bluish-purple capital letters, no author named.

Around the World: The Adventures of Idabell and Wakefield. I thought this was an Edward Eager but remembered always going to the G or H section. As you might expect this is another in a successful series of picture books but this time they are tackling the alphabet in a beautiful and entertaining way. “I spy an L wearing lacy white and a metal M that’s screwed on tight.” Each letter is distinctly pattered in its own unique way.

It was definitely a single, large volume, probably quite old, but could have been as late as the '60's or '70's. It was nominated for the National Book Award in 2004 (or maybe 2005). When Detective Inspector Joseph Rafferty visits his local pub for a quick drink, he’s looking to forget his troubles, not add to them.

This is definitely Mirror of Danger (also titled Come Back Lucy). I think the persn is looking for the MRS. The pictures were very dark but very detailed. Lots of articles, essays, and lists featuring crime on campus. And what better opportunity to visit France's biggest salon celebrating children's books? He laos worte several other 'puzzle' books. But don't rely on fuzzy, half-remembered trivia from freshman biology. "We've very, very picky about the facts," warns Senior Editor Deborah Churchman. "The writer needs to do his or her research and make sure that the animals in question really exist where the writer puts them, and really behave the way the writer describes it. " Junior Trails requires that stories include Christian principles, "but without being preachy," says Editor Sinda Zinn.

Maybe it was Encyclopedia Brown or Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys. Gray's book contains no aliens, no force-fields, no blue. Don't know how close this is - Hester and the Gnomes, by Marigold Hunt, illustrated by Jean Charlot, published Whittlesey/McGraw 1955, 128 pages. "A delightful story of how a delegation of gnomes came up to investigate the digging of a well, how they met Hester, and why they decided to stay and set up a gentlemen's residence in the old hollow tree.

I think that the book had been hers as a child. My father passed away 14 years ago and I regret never asking him about the details on this.... Supposedly, this is a code and the reader is challenged to break the code using the letters and hidden hints in the illustrations. This silly story follows two "ducktectives" who attempt to "quack the case" of several robberies on a farm. No one ever comes out of the factory, and nobody ever goes in, and yet it is still churning out tons of incredible delicious treats.

Optional: Have students play the Mystery Memory Game with a partner. Relationships and the opportunities (or lack thereof) that people have are subjects that have always consumed me. She won a battle for independence from her guardian, gruff and snobbish Lady Drume. This sounds like the Boxcar Children "Mystery In the Sand", but it is NOT that book. The mix of traditional and contemporary cultural references adds to the story's haunting appeal, and the quick pace and suspense, particularly in the last few chapters, will likely hold the interest of young readers.

The result is Johnny getting severely burned, his hand crippled beyond use. I'm going to agree with the Blyton suggestion. Other unusual stories include Princess Precious Heart and The Lonely Stone Gnome. 40 stories altogether. The disguise in Chapter 10 is perhaps psychologically revealing. Encyclopedia Brown comes by his name honestly: he often seems like a walking book of knowledge. James Patterson's Alex Cross series started with Along Came a Spider in 1993 and has been keeping readers entertained ever since.

Blue jays are famous culprits, too, stealing shiny things," says Marileta Robinson, a Senior Editor at Highlights for Children. One of the greatest novels in American literature, about a Puritan colony in Massachusetts, and its smug righteousness in condemning a woman caught in adultery for having a child out of wedlock. She may actually break one of the dolls causing it to go slack jawed. An internet search turned up the following information: More Times and Places: The New Basic Readers Curriculum Foundation Series, 4th Grade 1st Semester, by William S.

I grew up in the 70s, but my siblings grew up in the 60s, and I believe the artwork is more in style with their time.... These depths are also dark and psychically wrenching: Clarissa's rejection and dehumanization by her monstrous family and the sadistic torments she undergoes at the hands of her rescuer turned torturer, the "charming sociopath" Robert Lovelace, offer some of the most emotionally harrowing reading experiences available in English.
